I’m excited to share the first update on my OpenGL game project. The game is set in a medieval world with a focus on survival, and I’m using the project to apply everything I’m learning about OpenGL. Since this is my first game with OpenGL, I’m starting with the basics, and so far, I’ve made progress in the following areas:

  • 3D Camera: I’ve implemented a basic first-person camera with movement controls.
  • Procedural Map Generation: I’ve added basic procedural map generation, though it’s still very simple for now.
  • Basic Lighting: I’ve added simple directional lighting.
  • 3D Model Loading: I’ve started implementing the loading of 3D models.

What’s Next? 

Moving forward, I plan to improve the procedural map generation. Additionally, here’s what’s on my list for upcoming features:

  • Collision detection
  • Sound effects and background music
  • A particle system for visual effects
  • NPC generation with pathfinding
  • A basic UI
